On August 5, a traffic accident in Navarre, Florida, resulted in one death and two injuries. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 1 p.m. near the intersection of State Road 87 and Choctaw Road on the Eglin Air Force Base reservation.
Eighteen-year-old Alexis Penton was driving north on S.R. 87 when she reportedly lost control of her car, a 2005 Ford Mustang, and veered into the southbound lane of the highway. A Mack truck, driven by 46-year-old Mark Williams, struck the Mustang, with the impact of the collision sending the car onto the road’s east shoulder. The truck drove off the road and crashed into a pine tree, according to the police report.
Penton was transported to Baptist Hospital in serious medical condition. Ronni Stone, Penton’s 20-year-old passenger in the Mustang, was killed in the accident. Payton Lee Stone, a two-year-old also riding in the Mustang, was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in critical condition. Williams, the truck driver, suffered only minor injuries. The Florida Highway Patrol is currently conducting its investigation of an accident, but speed may have been a factor in the collision.
